Ocoee Middle School Student Dress Code

 

The dress code at Ocoee Middle School is based on enhancing the learning process and providing for personal safety. The student ID card is part of the OMS dress code and must be worn visibly on a lanyard. If clothing is too short, tight, ragged, revealing, controversial, or unsafe, it will be deemed inappropriate for school. Parents on the School Advisory Council and the PTA Board approve the dress code each year. The guidelines for determining what is appropriate for the school are based on the following:

 

The following are NOT permitted at school

 

• Short dresses, skirts or shorts. Shorts, skirts, and dresses must fall within the following guidelines: In a standing position, let your arms hang freely at your sides. Your shorts, skirts, or dresses may not be above the tip of your middle finger.

 

• Hats, caps, visors, sunglasses, or bandanas while on campus.

 

• Pants worn below the waist and/or hanging down below shoes. Suspenders or straps worn off the shoulders or unbuckled belts.

 

• Revealing tops such as: tank tops, muscle shirts, and tops that expose under garments, the midriff, or shoulders. Blouses and shirts should be long enough to not expose your stomach when your arms are raised and must have a sleeve.

 

• Tops with deep armholes or low necklines.

 

• Always wear proper footwear for safety. All shoes must have back straps.

 

• Facial piercing, ink or marker on arms or hands.

 

• Unnatural hair coloring or weaving styling and make-up that causes a disruption to the educational environment.

 

• Wearing apparel or any type of display intended to identify a student as a member of a gang (one pant leg pulled up, tattoos, certain necklaces, bracelets going up one arm, etc.).

 

• Items worn by students that could cause harm to self or others, such as metal (or rubber)chains or jewelry with exposed sharp objects such as spikes, pointed studs and safety pins.

 

• Sleepwear, such as bedroom slippers or pajamas.

 

• Designs promoting tobacco products, alcohol or drugs; or designs with suggestive, obscene or abusive language/pictures and anarchy symbols.
